Sustainability and the Environment
Hanwha Solar embraces environmental responsibility and sustainability. Each step of Hanwha Solar’s manufacturing process is ISO14001 certified. We approach solar sustainability by consciously minimizing environmental impact—during production, as the product is operational and creating energy, and at the end of the product’s lifespan. This holistic approach helps to ensure that the renewable energy produced by a Hanwha Solar module is indisputably green at point-of-use and end-of-life.
During production, byproducts such as slurry are recycled as standard practice. We also aim to reduce the raw materials used per module—this is important from a profitability and environmental sustainability standpoint. After at least 25 years of producing clean energy, the module will reach the end of its life cycle, at which time Hanwha Solar helps recycle the modules—key components like glass and aluminum are all recyclable. The company actively participates in a voluntary photovoltaic recycling program that anticipates long-term solar module recycling needs, and develops the necessary infrastructure and funding. Solar by virtue is a renewable energy, but by participating in the recycling of PV modules, we have added an extra sense of renewability to our product.
Our facilities are run, in part, on rooftop solar systems, and the street lamps around our manufactory are entirely solar powered. The facility is also keen on brown-water reuse and treatment. By ensuring that our company, our processes, and our products are as energy-efficient and respectful of the environment, we are making strides to make solar energy as pure as possible.
