BioBased Insulation® is a product of Rhino Linings Corporation®. BioBased insulation spray polyurethane foams were created to help reduce the environmental impact of buildings. When applied, the products accomplish this by correctly sealing and insulating buildings to make them more energy efficient. The BioBased Insulation line also has products that integrate rapidly renewable ingredients as a replacement for a portion of the petroleum, and products that are water-blown or use Enovate as the blowing agent. Sustainability and the Environment
Because our products are insulations, the first and largest impact they have on the environment is in their ability to seal and insulate a building. This sealed thermal envelope allows the HVAC system to efficiently condition the air inside of the home.
According to ENERGYSTAR, "as much as half of the energy used in your home goes to heating and cooling. By preventing heat loss in the winter and heat gain in the summer, a properly installed insulation barrier reduces utility bills year round."
According to the U.S. Department of Energy, "While homes are not often considered a source of pollution, the electricity, fossil fuels and other energy sources they use contribute to global warming, acid rain, smog and other serious environmental problems. Wasted energy needlessly pollutes the environment. Energy-efficient homes help to protect the environment as well as the pocketbooks of homeowners."
We've also taken the extra step of increasing some of the sustainable attributes of both our insulation and sealant products. We offer some products that integrate rapidly renewable materials, in this case soy, as a replacement for a portion of the petroleum that's typically used in spray foam insulation. We also offer some products that use water as the blowing agent, and others that use Enovate, a zero Ozone Depletion Potential and a low Global Warming Potential blowing agent. Enovate is not considered a Volatile Organic Compound in the U.S.
VISION House in INNOVENTIONS Products
BioBased Insulation Open Cell® is the latest innovation in the BioBased Insulation® product line. This water-blown, open cell, .5 lb foam is scheduled to be released in early 2013. It will be ICC Rated and is a USDA Certified Biobased Product with 13% bio-content in the finished foam. This spray foam insulation performs well in a wide variety of applications. It has an R-value of 13 at 3.5 inches, is Class I fire rated and is an air barrier. BioBased Insulation Open Cell®expands to 100 times its size when installed and has low VOCs in the finished foam.
Other Products from BioBased Insulation®
BioBased 501w ® was the first product introduced in the BioBased Insulation® line. This is a water-blown, open-cell, .5 lb foam that performs well in a wide variety of applications. It has an R-value of 13 at 3.5 inches, is Class I fire rated and is an air barrier. It is ICC Rated, expands to 100 times its size when installed and has low VOCs in the finished foam. It has 3% bio-based content in the finished foam based on ASTM D6866.
BioBased Insulation Open Cell ® is the latest in the BioBased Insulation® product line. This water-blown, open cell, .5 lb foam is scheduled to be released in early 2013. It will be ICC Rated and will qualify for the USDA Certified Biobased Product label.
BioBased Insulation® fills stud-to-stud and forms an air barrier around your structure that seals the building envelope, making it more energy efficient. The air seal also helps to block harmful outside irritants and airborne noise.
2001 NB is a non-biobased closed-cell 2.0 lb foam that uses Enovate® – with a zero Ozone Depletion Potential and low Global Warming Potential – as the blowing agent. It is Class I fire rated and is and air barrier with an R-value of 18 at 3 inches.
