It’s World Water Week in Stockholm and to celebrate we’re honoring long-time friends and VISION House Los Angeles sponsor, Kohler Co. Founded in 1873, Kohler Co. is one of the oldest and largest privately held companies in America. By reducing the consumption of natural resources in its operations, producing more environmentally friendly products and continuing their work to encourage global sustainability, they hope to reach a net zero environmental footprint by 2035.
Kohler was recognized by the Environmental Protection Agency in 2008, 2009, and 2010 for their educational efforts with other industry leaders in addressing water issues. Their current collaboration, a PSA campaign with a humorous tone, challenges consumers to do something about their own water usage. Whether it’s turning off the running faucet while brushing your teeth or running disherwashers that aren’t full, the goal is to encourage people to do-away with bad water habits.

The Structure Home and Green Builder® Media VISION House® goal is to further involve local West Los Angeles schools and students, at every level, in a variety of activities related to the project from communication, public outreach and awareness, educational forums, retrofit and demonstration workshops, specific sustainable projects within the greater project, recycling programs, and field trips, for the faculty, students and their parents.
Local subcontractors, sponsors, design consultants, and vendors will have opportunities to participate in demonstration/education events at the project. Retrofit and demonstration workshops and events will be held onsite including one showcasing “Behind the Walls.”
Local building officials will have opportunities to participate in demonstration/education events at the project. The City of Los Angeles Mayor's office, City Councils, the Los Angeles Building and Safety Department, the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power and the Gas Company have all expressed an interest in supporting the efforts of VISION House® Los Angeles. There have been discussions of the groups holding events at the VISION House® including a possible CalGreen seminar.
Pacific Palisades Junior Women’s Club and Other Charities
Pacific Palisades Junior Women's Club is a non-profit organization that brings together energetic and socially minded women dedicated to supporting this community-centered town where family and business thrive. Pacific Palisades Junior Women’s Club (PPJWC) has distributed nearly $1,000,000 to a variety of causes including aid for the elderly, the environment, public schools and fire stations. Structure Home has an ongoing relationship with PPJWC including collaboration for the Fourth of July Parade, Home Tour Event, Green Fashion Show, and more! Structure Home built a Green Builder® Media VISION House® Los Angeles influenced playhouse that was displayed at the Pacific Palisades Fourth of July parade and donated to the PPJWC. All proceeds from the playhouse will be allocated to the numerous PPJWC non-profit supported charities. Onsite events will be held at VISION House® Los Angeles and proceeds from various events will be given to select charities.
Pacific Palisades and the Los Angeles Community
Structure Home and Green Builder® Media are excited to get the Pacific Palisades community involved in VISION House® Los Angeles. The objective of the project is to raise awareness and educate the community about current sustainable building and living practices. Some of the community events discussed at this time include a sustainable wine tasting event, food truck event, participation at the Pacific Palisades Sunday market, educational events and retrofit workshops.
