Natural Gas: Leaky Data

2/21/2013

A report by the Conservation Law Foundation suggests that the nation’s aging natural gas infrastructure is in far worse shape than most people imagine—a situation that’s contributing to global warming and putting lives at risk.

Add to this the often nightmarish side effects of “fracking,” and the argument for gas as a clean energy source is shallow at best, based on less aggressive methods of extraction (from years past) and some selective number crunching. Methane gas, especially, is problematic. The impact of methane (CH4)on climate change is 20 times greater than CO2—when weighed against the 100-year standard.
