The Green Leap: Conserving Biodiversity in Subdivision Development

Dr. Mark Hostetler

Launch Webinar

The Green Leap: Conserving Biodiversity in Subdivision Development

Dr. Mark Hostetler is a Professor, Department of Wildlife Ecology & Conservation, University of Florida (UF). With over twenty years of experience in urban wildlife and green development issues, Professor Mark Hostetler understands how urban landscapes should be designed and managed to conserve biodiversity. Dr. Hostetler co-founded UF’s Program for Resource Efficient Communities (PREC) and collaborates with an interdisciplinary team of scientists and graduate students to foster green development projects nationally and internationally. He serves on the advisory board of URBIO, which is a scientific network for education and research that promotes urban biodiversity across the globe. In particular, he conducts a national continuing education course on conserving biodiversity in subdivision development, engaging a variety of built environment professionals. He is the author of The Green Leap: Conserving Biodiversity in Subdivision Development, and he contributes to several online blogs regarding urban biodiversity conservation and green development, including The Nature of Cities and Huffington Post.

Join Green Builder Media and Dr. Hostetler for a live online presentation about his experiences to shift conventional development inertia to something more compatible with urban biodiversity conservation. Policy makers, planners, built environment professionals, and citizens all play a role in creating and maintaining green developments. Through case studies and “real-world” experiences with development projects, he will discuss ways to engage all stakeholders in order to create functioning green communities. Many green development projects fail to stand the test of time, stemming from improper design, impacts during the construction phase, and how people manage their homes, yards, and neighborhoods. The way forward is challenging, and he outlines a range of techniques, research, policy tools, and educational strategies that could be used to engage key stakeholder groups. In particular, he will stress the importance of addressing decisions made during the design, construction, and post-construction phases of new subdivision development

SAVE Act: Financing Options & Real Estate Ramifications

Ron Jones, Bob Sahadi, Dr. John Beldock

Launch Webinar

In our first two webinars of the SAVE Act series, we examined all aspects of the SAVE Act, and how it might affect builders & remodelers. We’ll wrap up this series by focusing on the legislation’s potential effect on the financing and real estate industries.

The goal of the SAVE Act is to provide lower rate mortgage financing for cost effective energy improvements. It would enable homeowners, builders and remodelers to invest in energy efficient materials and practices. This in turn would allow for the recovery of the cost of energy efficient upgrades. Finally, future buyers and lenders would be able to account for the monthly savings produced by these measures.

By removing these barriers for homeowners and the industry, the effects of the SAVE Act should increase the supply of and demand for energy-efficient new homes and improvements.

On Tuesday, May 1st at 12pm ET, Ron Jones will be joined by financial expert Bob Sahadi from IMT and Dr. John Beldock, CEO of EcoBroker International and Executive Director of the Association of Energy and Environmental Real Estate Professionals. Together, they'll explore the lending vehicles that would accentuate the impact of the proposed legislation, and what the SAVE Act might do for the sale of new and existing homes... whether they’re energy efficient or not. They’ll also take your questions… live!

SAVE Act: How It Affects Builders/Remodelers

Ron Jones, C.R. Herro, Chad Ray

Launch Webinar

In our inaugural webinar of the SAVE Act series, we examined all aspects of the SAVE Act. Now, we want to narrow our focus to the effects on specific industries. This edition will concentrate on builders and remodelers.

By removing these barriers for both homeowners and the industry, the effects of the SAVE Act should increase the supply of and demand for energy-efficient new homes and improvements, putting people in the construction, remodeling and manufacturing sectors back to work.

On Wednesday, April 4th at 12pm ET, Ron Jones was joined by builders C.R. Herro and Chad Ray. Together, they explored how the bill would affect the closing process for new and existing homes, and how it incentivizes the building and/or retrofitting of energy efficient homes.
