Using the earth’s constant subterranean temperature for geothermal heating and cooling, WaterFurnace offers remarkably efficient systems that consist of a compressor, heat exchanger, and loops of flexible tubes sunk beneath frost depth.
The loops carry an environmentally friendly water-antifreeze mix, and the pump compresses and decompresses the liquid in the loop. In winter, the relative warmth of the earth is gathered, concentrated, and used to heat the home. Heat is delivered through a water-to-water heat exchanger that feeds the radiant floor system. The entire pump system is nearly maintenance free, very quiet, and fits into a space as small as a closet. But best of all, WaterFurnace consumes 40%–70% less energy than traditional heating systems, and it doesn’t burn oil or gas except for what’s needed to generate electricity to run the system.
