Passionate about the "VISION"

Ground broke earlier this summer on the VISION House in Orlando, Fla. Read about what some of the people involved have to say about the project.
As project manager for the VISION and ReVISION Houses in Orlando, I have had the opportunity to hear from some of our sponsors, as well as the people involved with the design and building of these homes. Green Builder Media has the honor of working with individuals and companies who are passionate about the incorporation of essential sustainable design and construction while at the same time creating a practical home with style and character.
Architect Ed Binkley of ed binkley design says, “My favorite aspect of the 2011 VISION House started with the program—a home designed for a tight urban fringe infill lot that would offer maximum flexibility, use solid sustainable practices, and be available to the masses at a moderate price. I like taking a pretty typical housing model for the neighborhood, unplugging it, and opening it up to create something totally unexpected.”
One important aspect of sustainable design is energy efficiency. This year the EPA named one of our sponsors, Panasonic Home and Environment Company, the 2010 Energy Star Partner of the Year. Anita So, marketing manager for Panasonic, is pleased that the company is leading the way in energy efficiency. “A house can be ‘green’ but not be efficient,” she says and explains that Panasonic Home and Environment Company has an “eco-focus” for 2010 and 2011 to “create energy, store energy, manage energy, and save energy.”
Jon Pleveich, of Southern Traditions Development sums it up in his July 30 VISION House Orlando blog: “We have only been at this for a few weeks, and I am being inspired daily. I am looking forward to writing about the next wave of products and services that will inspire all of us to build green.”
At Green Builder Media, we are excited to be working with all of the sponsors, designers, and builders involved with the VISION House Orlando projects, and we are eager to see how each of them continues to lead the way in helping to create a more sustainable environment.
