Green Builder® Media and Masco Home Services, Inc. (a Masco company) are happy to announce the recipients
of the scholarship to the Environments For Living program track on Green Builder College.
The training, based on Masco Home Services' Environments For Living program and presented by John Tooley of Advanced Energy Corporation, is hosted at Green Builder College (GBC). The high-quality, building science-based content is presented in dynamic video format and includes information on energy efficiency, water use, indoor environment quality, and other topics related to sustainable design and construction.
The Environments For Living program has been working with builders since 2001 to improve the energy and environmental performance, comfort and durability of homes. More than 100,000 homes have been built under the program to date. The turnkey program provides builders with a complete solution to high-performance building, including plan review, field-testing, training, certification, and powerful marketing tools. Because the Environments For Living program is performance, and not product-based, any high-performance product, system or strategy may be used as long as it meets Environments For Living program requirements, allowing builders maximum flexibility.

On January 29, 2009, the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) approved the National Green Building Standard™ as an American National Standard (ANS), making it the first and only green building rating system approved by ANSI. The official designation is ANSI/ICC 700-2008. The standard, which can be applied to all single family homes, apartments and condos, land development, and residential remodeling projects, defines green practices that can be incorporated into residential development and construction. The standard also provides guidelines for how home owners can appropriately operate and maintain their green homes and allows for flexibility, enabling home builders and buyers to make green choices based on climate, geography, performance, style preferences, and budget.
Developed by a consensus committee seated by the National Association of Home Builders and the International Codes Council (Chaired by our Co-Founder and Editorial Director, Ron Jones), the standard will be the template used for national policies, regulations, codes, and green building programs that require the improved performance, durability, safety, and indoor environment quality of the housing stock in the U.S.
The Standard is the first of a deluge of new guiding principles that will change the way that we deal with new and existing houses.
We're delighted by the approval of this standard, as it represents tangible progress in the housing industry as we move towards greater sustainability. For more information, feel free to email us at
ask@greenbuildermag.com. Thanks for your continued interest in green building and sustainable development. The industry will only continue to achieve such substantial progress if we're all pulling in the same direction!
